I first moved to Seattle in 2010 in an attempt to escape the overcrowded Silicon Valley. I always enjoyed attending startup meetups and events, but the experience in the valley was more about who you knew rather than what you were working on or interested in. If you weren’t wearing a shirt or name tag from a startup mentioned on TechCrunch, nobody wanted to talk to you. It was a very hard community to break into, heavily competitive and socially fragmented. While I still had some great times and met great folks here and there, but I was always longing for a more supportive community.
Beers & Peers
My first goal in Seattle was to meet people outside of work, I wanted to discover what the startup community was like up here. Somehow I stumbled upon Dave Schappell, Joe Sunga, Daryn Nakhuda, and the rest of the Hops & Chops group. At the end of the day there was no better way to get introduced to the community than by a group of Seattle entrepreneurs and startup junkies who like to get together, drink beer, and talk shop.
It’s been about a year now since the last time it was a regular occurrence, folks moved on to other gigs, life started getting tough to juggle. I know how it goes, but I keep seeing new folks show up in Seattle interested in the startup world. So I called up Joe and asked him if we could get the band back together. Let’s do it Seattle! If you’re into startups, technology, and beer, swing by Auto Battery Tomorrow, April 2nd, to chill and talk shop for a couple hours with a bunch of like-minded folks.
