Breathe Yoga Retreat

In 2012 my wife took me on an amazing yoga retreat in Tulum Mexico.

Breathe Retreat

I decided to bring my filming equipment with me. I filmed off and on for the few days we were there and cut together a very short commercial of sorts to document the trip. I didn’t account for how bright the sun would be and overexposed a lot of my footage. I also did not account for how loud the ocean would be, and had to fiddle with low-pass filters in post.

Infomercial Spoof

I had a ton of fun producing this one for Intuit’s yearly technology forum.

virtualization

They asked everyone who was doing a panel at the forum to create a brief commercial advertising their session. I was working heavily on virtualizing all the things at the time and thought this concept would be a funny way to relate to the success of our project within the company. I apologize for any nerds I may have offended during the filming of this short.

48 hour film project

If you haven’t participated in the 48 hour film festival, I highly recommend doing so at least once.

48 Hour Film Project

The basic premise is that you have to write, shoot, and stitch together a film in less than 48 hours. With the additional variables of drawing a genre out of a hat, and tying in a given prop, character, and line of dialog.

Even though you don’t always walk away with a film you’re going to take to festivals, it’s still the best end-to-end, time-crunched, sleepless production experience you can get outside of the industry. I recommend joining an experienced team, I struggled my first few years but had a great group of friends who were all in it together.

Just Us - Seattle ‘13

This was the year we drew the dreaded Romance genre.

Just Us

It was very challenging to write for, we’ve always leaned towards a tinge of comedy and the writing team struggled with this. In the end we went with a campy sort-of-family oriented rom-com, with a dog… don’t ever put a dog in your film.

Production was a breeze however, I was fortunate enough to work with the great Jeramie Shoda as my DP, he is a master at framing and lighting shots quickly so you don’t have to worry about the dog not sitting still for too long.

The Pile - San Jose ‘11

This one came in under the wire.

The Pile

There is a production photo of the team sitting around the editing station in prayer hoping the project rendered in time. This is probably one of my favorite 48 hour films I’ve worked on. We had a great team, and a pretty funny script that we were able to play with during filming.

I enjoyed acting in this project as well, even if I was the first guy to die. This is what 48 hour film projects are supposed to be, silly, short, nonsensical films that leave you with a smile on your face. I hope you enjoy this.

Sound Engineering

I also enjoy doing sound production as well.

Canna

I did all of the production recording on the set of the wonderful Aviva Peltin’s first short film, Canna. Keep an eye out for her, she is definitely going places.

Tape Recorder

They say the best way to move up is to work for someone else, and having the opportunity to work with Douglas Horn on his short film, Tape Recorder, was an extremely great learning experience. I look forward to more of these projects in the future, and I’m always looking for new opportunities.
